COMPASS SPORT CUP FINAL

The Compass Sport Cup Final was held this year just over the Scottish border high up on moorlands, near Teviothead. The low cloud, horizontal driving rain and gale force winds tempered many results. Fielding a smaller than usual team of 46 club members Suzanne Humphries, Vice Captain, was pleased with the 4th place result in the national inter club cup final. Twenty five Octavian Droobers scored a total of 1907 points coming behind leaders AIRE with 2204, LOC 2115 and SYO 2093 points.

Two club members achieved the maximum 100 points: Sophie Kirk W20 who came 1st on the Green Women’s course and Riina Kuuselo W21 who came 1st on the Blue Women’s course. Will Gardner M20 came second on the Blue Men’s Cup course and scored 99 points for the club. Other top scorers included Sheila Carey W65, 98 points, on the Short Green Vets course, Daniel Halliday M21, 96 points on the Brown course and Julie Emmerson W16, 96 on the Light Green Women’s Course. Matt Elkington M18 won the ‘Golden Boot’ for the fastest run in to the finish from the last control taking only 39 seconds and Alan Segar M35 was joint 3rd in 43 seconds.

On the previous day in Carlisle, mainly in sunshine, several club members ran an urban race around the city and first places were awarded to Julie Emmerson W16 on the 3.4k junior women’s course in 25.56mins, Sheila Carey W65 on the Women’s Ultra Vet 3k course in 31.36mins and Mike Hampton M65 on the Men’s Ultra Vet 3.7k course in 29.24mins. Stephen Elkington M16 came 2nd on the Junior Men’s 3.4k course in 24.18mins, only 8 seconds behind winner and Will Gardner M20 came 3rd in the Men’s Open 6.8k race in 38.42mins.
