WEST MIDLANDS LEAGUE RESULTS
League leaders, Octavian Droobers competed at the West Midlands League 9 event organised by Wrekin Orienteers at Nesscliffe 7 miles North West of Shrewsbury. The terrain of woodland set on a rocky outcrop, with steep climbs and good path networks, produced some good runs by club members.
Top runner on the Light Green 3.6km course was Sam Leadley M14, who took 47.57mins. New club member Kirsten Strain W21 was the fastest woman at the event, taking 81.38mins on the long Brown 8.4km course with 280 metres of climb and Club Captain Alistair Powell M35 was 2nd in 76.25mins on the same course. Other top 5 positions were achieved by: David Leadley M50 5th on the Blue 6.8km 225 metres of climb course in 67.49mins, Mike Hampton M65 4th on the Green 4.7km in 47.23mins, Peter Carey M70 5th on the Short Green 3.8km course in 55.48mins. On Saturday the club held their first ever event at Cawston Park, Rugby. The event was organised by Amy Sarkies with help from Kirsten Strain. She planned 5 courses of varying lengths and difficulties around the park and surrounding urban housing using the new large scale map drawn up especially for the event by club mapper Bruce Bryant.
The event was particularly popular with families and attracted several new orienteers from the Rugby area. There were a total of 52 runs by individuals and family groups. The longest Urban course of 6.4km was won by Mateusz Podsiadly M21 who took 39.50mins. Andy Emmerson M55 won the Urban Medium 4.1km course taking 28.18mins and Felix Lunn M12 won the Urban Short 3.2km course in 27.03mins. The Lunn brothers won both the Park races, with Oliver M12 winning the 1.5km course in 8.41mins and Felix the Park Long 2.3km in 16.56mins.
