Organiser / Planner's comments:

The park staff at Coombe were concerned that today’s event would put an additional strain on their already overloaded car parking capacity that would extend into the afternoon, so it was great that so many of you were able to arrive (and run) early. It was a lovely day for orienteering and the recent dry and sunny weather really has made a big difference to the going underfoot. A lot of the wooded areas have very good visibility at this time of year and I hope those running the Short, Medium and Long courses did see some of the snowdrop patches that are looking particularly good at the moment. Thinning has been taking near the northern tip of Coombe for several weeks and has continued since the map was updated but fortunately control 190 on the Medium course was still recognisable.

Congratulations to everyone who completed their courses successfully. It was also pleasing to see that those who didn’t, only made a single mistake and did bag all their other controls.

You may have noticed the overly long split time on your results print-out from the final control (180) to the Finish. It appears that the internal clocks in some controls have drifted over time meaning they are no longer all fully synchronised. It is the same for everyone so the finishing positions in the results are not affected. In case you are wondering, all the electronic timing kit will be reset/synchronised to BST for the next OD event at Bentley Woods near Atherstone (details on the club website).

My thanks in particular to Jill, Keith, Margaret, Jane, Alistair and Mykyta for all their help on the day as well as to several others who offered/lent a hand at various times. Thanks also to Bruce for his comprehensive map updates and to Liz for setting up and managing the online entries through Fabian4.
