RESULTS FROM BUCKINGHAM AND RUGBY
Competitors had several options to take part in orienteering this weekend. One was an Urban race around Buckingham and another was an innovative ‘photo’ orienteering competition around Rugby Town Centre.
Buckingham Town Centre and surrounding park was the venue for the UK Urban league event organised by South Midlands Orienteering Club. Chris McCartney M50 was 1st on the Mens Vet 5.8km course in 42.38mins, Peter Carey M75 was 1st on the Mens Hyper Vet 3.2km course taking 27.17mins and Sheila Carey W70 was 1st on the Womens Ultra Vet 3.2km course in 28.19mins.
Making their debuts for the club were two new members: Kin Wai Lee M21 who came 3rd on the Mens Open 6.7km course taking 42.43mins and Ka Man Leung W21, 2nd in the Womens Open class taking 51.15mins on the 5.8km course. Nadine Wright W21 was 4th on the Womens Open in 53.06mins.
Many club members and friends enjoyed the ‘photo’ orienteering challenge set by Bruce Bryant around Rugby Town Centre. Rob Smart’s team managed to identify the location of all 87 photos taken of landmarks, statues, buildings etc as indicated on the orienteering map within the time limit. Felix Lunn and Anne Straube’s team were joint 2nd and Paul Gregson was 4th.
