CAMBRIDGE SPRINTS, MANSTY WOODS AND WEST MIDLANDS SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS

The Cambridge Science City Double Urban Sprint Races, part of southern England Urban League, were fast and furious and set over two distinct urban areas. The first was in the commercial science park and the second around an intricate housing estate in North Cambridge. Alfie Bullus M16 was 3rd overall in the Men’s Junior category having been 2nd in the first race and 4th on the second with a total time of 32.29mins.  Chris McCartney was 3rd overall in the Men’s Vet race taking a total of 29.27mins. Mike Hampton was 6th overall in the Men’s Ultra Vet class in 29.31mins and Peter Carey 7th in the same category in 29.41mins.   Harriet Lawson was 6th in the Women’s Open in 33.23mins, Liz Phillips 5th in the Women’s Vet class in 35.44mins and Sheila Carey 5th in the Women’s Ultra Vet class in 29.58mins.

In glorious sunshine on Sunday the West Midlands League event at Mansty Wood, Cannock Chase, organised by Walton Chasers, saw some fast running by OD club members. On the Green 4.5km course Felix Lunn M14 32.40mins just beat his brother Oliver 33.17mins into 2nd place. Finley Flippance M12 was 2nd on the Orange 2.8km course in 41.41mins and Josie Smart W12 was also 2nd on the Yellow 2.4km course taking 18.08mins. Philip Lunn M45 was 2nd on the Light Green 3.3km course in 33.51mins and Tabitha Lunn W12 3rd in 35.50mins. On the Long Brown 8.4km course top ten places were: 6th David Leadley M50 59.27mins, 7th David Dunn M35 63.06mins, 9th Alex Ivanovs M35 63.42mins. Barry Elkington M60 was 6th on the Blue 6.5km course in 45.02mins.   

The West Midlands Schools Championships were organised by City of Birmingham Orienteering Club and it was great to see so many club juniors representing their schools. Top junior club members runners were Tabitha Lunn 1st and Florence Lunn 2nd in the Primary Year 6 Girls class, Chris Markham 3rd Primary Year 5 Boys, Eoin Hankinson 1st and Finley Flippance 2nd in the Primary Year 6 Boys, Peter Markham 2nd Secondary Year 7/8 Boys, Oliver Lunn 1st and Felix Lunn 2nd Secondary Year 9/10 Boys and Harrison McCartney 1st and Stephen Elkington 2nd Secondary Year 11 Boys. Congratulations to local school teams for making the podium: Bablake Junior 2nd in the Primary category, King Henry VIII 2nd and Kenilworth School 3rd in the Secondary category.
