SUCCESS FOR JUNIORS AT BRITISH SCHOOLS EVENT

                             

Several junior orienteering club members proudly represented their schools at the British Schools Score Championships held near Guildford in Surrey. Pupils, from schools around the Warwickshire area including Ryton on Dunsmore, Banbury, Kenilworth and Leek Wootton, achieved individual top ten places and a silver and two bronze school team prizes.

Florence Lunn came 1st in the Year 6 Girls class scoring 160 points by finding 16 controls within the 45 minutes allowable time and her Sister, Tabitha, came 3rd with 140 points. Thomas Chapple came 8th in the Year 6 Boys class with 120 points. In the Year 8 Boys class Cameron Williams-Stein was 9th and Nathan Chapple 10th both with 155 points. Oliver Lunn was 4th in the Year 9 category with 210 points, Felix Lunn was 6th with 210 points and Oliver Flippance 8th 200 points. Alfie Bullus was 2nd with 245 points in Year 10/11 Boys class and Stephen Elkington 9th in the Year 12/13 Boys class.

In Germany Harrison McCartney was competing for GB in the Junior European Championships which comprised 3 races: Sprint, Long Distance and Relays. Harrison earned a great 10th place in the Sprint, the top GB M18, with a time of 16.05mins on the 3.9km course.

The two day Urban Sprint around Chester saw Anne Straube, W45, in great form coming 1st overall in 80.34mins in the Womens Vet Class after competing in the 4 races around the city and parks including a night race. Pete Carey was 4th overall in the Mens Ultravet class in 91.05mins. On the individual days Liz Phillips W50 clocked up a 5th, 6th and 7th place in the Womens Vet class, Sheila Carey W65 a 4th in the Womens Ultra Vet class. Max Straube-Roth M10 came 3rd in the night race and 2nd in the City race in the Mens Young Junior class.

Guy Ross M20 won the Light Green 2.7km course at Shirebrook, near Mansfield taking 33.41mins, Lesley Ross W45 was 6th on the Blue 5.6km course taking 1.10.44mins and Chris McCartney M45 5th in 1.15.36mins.
