WINNERS AT WEST MIDLAND RELAYS

Florence Lunn W10, Tabitha Lunn W10 and Pippa Smart W12 won the Mini Relay in the West Midlands Relay Championships held at Parkhall Country Park and organised by Potteries Orienteering Club. The hilly parkland with mixed woodland courses suited other club members too. In the Open Women’s championships, Amy Sarkies W35, Lesley Ross W45 and Aimee Morse W18 came first taking a total of 135.56mins after their three legs. Felix Lunn M12, Will Heaton M16 and Oliver Lunn M12 were winners in the Junior Men’s Championships and first place was also won by the Super Veterans team of Peter Carey M70, Sheila Carey W65 and Bob Brandon M65 who took 114.04mins.

The Open Men’s team of Stephen Elkington M18, Tom Jeffries M40 and Barry Elkington M55 came 3rd as did the Veteran Men’s team of Richard Gardner M60, Ian Prowse M60 and, club captain for the day, Suzanne Humphries W50. Taking 4th places were Stuart Heaton M50, Rob Smart M45 and Adrian Sarkies M35 in the Senior Men’s class and Hilary Simpson W75, Trevor Simpson M75 and Mel Elkington W50 in the Mixed Ad Hoc team.

Sue Bicknell was the organiser of the very popular event at Coombe Country Park. Club members enjoyed the three courses and winners received prizes donated by sponsors Cotswold Outdoors of Coventry. Holly Elliott W12, new member from Nuneaton, won the Yellow 1.9k course in 19.35mins, Tabitha Lunn W10 was 2nd and Kimberley Lunn W45 3rd. Bruce Bryant M55 took 21.40mins on the Orange 3.5k course, Suzanne Humphries W50 23.40mins and Pete Carey M70 24.12mins. On the long Green 6.1k course Harrison McCartney M16 won easily in 36.15mins, Alistair Powell M35 took 41.56mins and Chris McCartney M45 was 3rd in 42.39mins.
