MIKE HAMPTON WINS IN NEW ZEALAND

Mike Hampton has done well in New Zealand and following on from his success in the Oceania World Cup Carnival he went on to win the ‘Sprint the Bay’ in the M60 plus category. The event was staged on urban and non urban courses around Hawkes Bay with two races on each of 3 days. Despite coming 7th in the first race he gradually improved to take the cumulative lead in 1.51.24mins only 13 seconds ahead of a New Zealand orienteer and 16 seconds ahead of an Australian competitor, after completing the 6 races.

The snowy weather forced the cancellation of the club’s West Midlands league event at Brandon but some plucky club members went to Charnwood Forest to compete in the Level C East Midlands event organised by Leicester Orienteering Club. New club member Nathan Lawson M16 had a good run on the Blue 5.5k course with 160m of climb and came 3rd in 47.24mins, sister Harriet Lawson W18 came 8th in 53.17mins and Harrison McCartney M16 9th in 54.01mins. On the Light Green 3k course with 70 metres of climb Ella-Rose McCartney W14 came 4th in 52.25mins.
