MATT HALLIDAY AT JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

At the Junior World Orienteering Championships Octavian Droober Matt Halliday M20 represented Great Britain in Poland. Over the week he competed in sprint, relay, middle and long distance races.

Matt was the best placed British runner in the middle distance race taking 29.56mins behind the Austrian winner’s 25.43mins and was part of the 3 man British relay team coming in 9th place out of 40 teams from around the world in 1.57.09mins only 4 minutes behind the first placed Polish team.

Pooley Fields Event

Lin Page and Steph Ellis-Gray successfully organised their first event at Pooley Fields Country Park. They planned three courses, prepared specially printed maps for each and put out controls during the day ready for the evening arrival of competitors. On the short 2.3k course with 15 controls Lucas Howarth M21 came 1st in 23.05mins. Liz Phillips W45 won the medium 3.6k course in 31.55mins, John Bowman M65 2nd 36.05mins and Sue Hallett W65 was 3rd in 38.50mins. Harrison McCartney M14 won the 5.1k course in 33.02mins ahead of Alan Segar M35 33.20mins and 3rd place was awarded to John Embrey M50 from HOC in 34.43mins.
