HARRISON, MIKE AND SHEILA ARE NEW BRITISH ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to Harrison McCartney M14, Mike Hampton M65 and Sheila Carey W65 on winning their individual events at the British Championships held in South Yorkshire in the Wharncliffe, Wheata and Greno Woods, on the outskirts of Sheffield. The two day event, British Championship and British Relays, attracted a large entry of 1900, 90 of whom were from Octavian Droobers.  

Accurately criss crossing paths, running over rugged boulder strewn slopes, through undergrowth and holly bush thickets, rewarded the fastest navigators and club members achieved some good results. Lesley Ross W45 was 2nd on the W45 long course and on the short M50 Bruce Bryant was 1st, on the W16 B course Tamsin Alcock was 1st and Elizabeth Davies 3rd, Helen Elkington 2nd on the W18 short, Peter Guillaume 3rd on M60 short and Michael Hanson-Morris 3rd on the Long Orange.  

Three relay teams won medals at the Championships: Robert Brandon, Mike Hampton and Dave Marr came 2nd in the M60 category as did Helen Elkington, Julie and Rachel Emmerson in the W18 event. Stephen Elkington, Tom Ross and Harrison McCartney came 3rd in the M14 race. 

At the local event in Rough Close the top 3 positions on the Yellow Easy course were taken by juniors from King Henry VIII School: Cliona Anson-Oā€™Connell and Adife, Anna and Abbie and Henry Adams. On the Orange 2.1k course, newcomer Paul Taylor won in 18.51mins, Zoe NicolsonW14 was 2nd in 19.16mins and Sue Hallett W65 3rd in 20.51mins. Sami Takaluoma M35 won the Long Green 4.2k course in 23.46mins ahead of Bruce Bryant M50 23.59mins and Thomas Honniball M21 24.17mins.
