MIDLAND CHAMPIONS

Octavian Droobers club members won twelve midland championship trophies at the Foxley and Garnstone Woods event on Sunday in Herefordshire. The championships formed part of the ‘March in the Marches’ weekend organised by Harlequin Orienteering Club.

On Saturday an Urban Race was staged around Great Malvern which attracted a large number of entries from across the country. Sue Bicknell W65 came 3rd on the 65+ Ultravet 3.9k course in 58.59mins, Jane Halliday 4th on the Veteran Women’s 40+ 4.5k course in 43.04mins, Toni O’Donovan was 4th in the Open Women’s 6.6k course in 59.45mins and Anne Straube 5th 63.40mins. Andy Simpson was 5th in the Open Men’s 7.3k course in 55.49mins.

In glorious sunshine at the Midland Championships, facing stiff competition from major clubs around the country, several club members had outstanding runs winning midland championship trophies in their classes: Harrison McCartney on the M14A 5k course in 35.17mins, Matthew Elkington M18E 10.3k course in 73.50mins, Ella-Rose McCartney W12A 3.8k course in 35.42mins, Julie Emmerson W16A 4.9k in 35.50mins and Anne Straube M35L 6.7k in 71.30mins. Hamish Rogers was a trophy winner on the M16A 7.3k course, Andy Simpson on the M35L 10k course and Lesley Ross W40 on the 6.7k course. Calum Barnetson M20, Tony Feltblower M55, Mike Hampton M65 and Hilary Simpson W70 also all came away with trophies.
