WEST MIDLANDS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Octavian Droobers club members clocked up some fine wins in the annual West Midlands Championships held at Park Hall near Stoke on Trent. At the Country Park event organised by Potteries Orienteering Club (POTOC) Ella Rose McCartney W10 became a champion on the yellow 1.8k course in 14.59mins. 

Congratulations to all club members who won their classes: Hamish Rogers M14 22.35mins, Rachel Emmerson W14 30.05mins, Janet Richardson W60 40.31mins and Frank Smith M80 64.42mins who all ran the Light Green 3k course, Matt Elkington M16 33.32mins, Jane Halliday W50 33.37mins and Mike Hampton M60 36.47mins on the Green 3.9k course.  

Winning the M18 class on the Blue 6.4k course was Will Gardner in 44.49mins and on the same course his father Richard Gardner M55 53.35mins, Barry Elkington M50 53.08mins and Emma Kettley W18 67.55mins. Dan Halliday M21 secured 1st place on the 8.1k Brown course in 54.31mins. 

Also congratulations to Matt Halliday who won the midlands sprint championships at Milton Keynes. 

The club’s local event at Tudor Grange, Solihull, organised by John Middler, attracted some new families keen to try out the sport. The winner of the long 3.75k sprint was Michael Hanson-Morris M18 in 25.35mins, Millie Lowe W14 won the short 3.25k sprint in 49.17mins and Annabel Rayner W12 was the winner of the Yellow 1.3k course in 12.21mins.
