The first Wednesday evening event of the season – and a great turnout – rather more than expected and apologies for those who were asked to give up their maps so that later runners could run the course of their choice (the maps can be downloaded from the website). Thanks to the Park Ranger – Pete –who turned up to ensure everything was OK and to ‘confirm’ that parking on the grass was acceptable – I don’t know where the cars would have gone otherwise! Also thanks to Jane and Liz Urquart who manned the registration, and to all those that helped collect in controls afterwards, just enough time before getting too dark.

I thought that fitting in a blue course might have been too crowded and too many controls, but it looks as if the green was long enough anyway for most. The last few controls in the woods caught out quite a few runners trying to go too fast in a tricky area which looked simple. I think I probably did have a couple of controls on wrong trees, including one not even on the map! But everyone was all-forgiving – it is easy to make these little mistakes when rushing round putting out the controls.
