Organiser’s Comments (Bob Brandon)

Thank you for coming to Pooley Fields – I enjoyed my course over the hill, hope that you did too.  Thanks too to Elizabeth & Robert, to those who offered help and to the Country Park for accommodating us.  Since our last district event (January) the Club has reviewed event procedures to incorporate the use of EMIT.  Paul Furness provided the e-support today such that a regular update of results were on display during the event.

Planners Comments

I enjoyed the challenge of planning on Pooley Fields; the last event I did was Bentley Woods - a bit of a contrast! The weather had been lovely on the two or three evenings I visited the area and of course the day itself was almost too hot. Thank you for all your positive comments about the courses.

Controller’s Comments

This was my second time controlling at Pooley Fields and I was interested to see how Liz would produce some different courses (including a Brown!) this year at what is a challenging area to plan on. I thought the courses she produced were varied and made the most of the map and this was reflected in the many positive comments I heard afterwards from quite a few of you. My thanks especially to Bob for organising the event so smoothly and to Paul and his team for sorting out all the EMIT stuff and making it work properly on the day.

A few complaints (from me) – one competitor had 2 minutes added to his time for repunching the start after marking up his map, and several competitors on the longer courses disregarded the instruction on the control descriptions to use the marked crossing point, and crossed the fence instead. My fault in not insisting on a control at the crossing (and having too much faith in my fellow orienteers’ sense of fair play perhaps!). Apologies to those whose time suffered in comparison because they went via the crossing.
