PODIUM PLACES AT SCOTTISH 6 DAYS
Sixty orienteers from the club travelled to Scotland to compete in the international 6 day event around Oban. The terrain was of a very high technical level with open hillsides, marshes, detailed contours and with virtually no paths and line features, accurate navigation was essential.
Congratulations to Andy Simpson who came 2nd overall on the M35L class after completing 6 events. He came 1st on Days 2 and 3. Lesley Ross was also 2nd on the W45 Long class. Awarded 3rd place overall on the M65L course from a field of 105 runners was Mike Hampton and Hilary Simpson W70 also came 3rd in her class. Sheila Carey W65 was 4th in her class and Jess Halliday 6th in the W21 Elite, both were 2nd best British runners behind strong international competition.
Matt Halliday M20 and Sophie Kirk W20 have been selected to compete at the Future Champions Cup which will be held in October in Pickering Forest, Yorkshire. They will be joined by other top 15 orienteers from each of the age classes 18 and 20.
