MULTI DAY SUMMER ORIENTEERING FESTIVAL

Octavian Droobers Orienteering Club members participated in the popular annual multi day orienteering summer festival held this year in the Lake District.

The 5 individual day events were staged at different locations around the Lake District with courses on remote moorland fells and steep wooded areas. Over 1,000 entrants came from all over the UK and Europe to compete in this premier event.

There were some great runs on these tough technical areas by club members and several podium places were achieved and overall results after 5 events, included a 1st place by Alistair Landels on the M50 courses and another 1st place by Juliet Soulard on the W50 course.  2nd places were awarded to Nathan Lawson competing in the M21 Long class, Anne Straube on the W45 Long class and Sheila Carey in the W75 age class.

Congratulations to club junior competitors: Andrew Tang, competing in his first multi day event, who was 5th overall in the M10 class and Max Straube-Roth who was 7th in the M14 class. Other top ten positions:  Hilary Simpson 7th W80, Trevor Simpson 10th M80, Peter Carey 8th M75, Barry Elkington 9th M65 and David Lawson 10th M55 all running in their respective Long age class. On the short age class courses Mykyta Chubynsky was 3rd M45 and Paul Gregson was 4th M40.

Upcoming local orienteering events

The club are holding two events to which newcomers will be especially welcome. The first is on Sunday 21 August at Rough Close Scout Camp, near Coventry from 10.30am until 11.30am and on Wednesday 24 August at University of Warwick Campus at 6pm.
