DROOBERS WIN  BRITISH NIGHT AND MIDLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

 

Octavian Droobers Club members, across all ages came away with trophies at the weekend’s championship races. First, on Saturday evening Leicestershire Orienteering Club staged the British Night Championships and runners from around the UK competed on some very tricky terrain in the dark wearing head torches, using compasses and electronic timers.

Harrison McCartney M18 and Sheila Carey W70 both became British Night Champions coming first on their respective age courses.  Harrison was 10 minutes clear taking 51.16mins on the 7.4km course with 155 metres of climb and Sheila took 69.23mins to run the 2.9km course. Toni O’Donovan was 2nd placed W35 taking 77.28mins on 6.1km course, Liz Phillips 3rd on the W50L 4.8km course in 73.59mins, Bruce Bryant M55 was 5th on the 6.1km course in 74.11mins and Harriet Lawson 3rd  in 64.45mins on the W20 4.8km Short course.

Both Harrison and Sheila completed the double by winning the Midlands championships the following day. Fast running through lovely Sherwood Forest, in Nottingham, suited club members, and congratulations to those who also became Midland Champions:  Oliver Lunn M14, Nathan Lawson M20, Tony Feltbower M60, Trevor Simpson M75, Florence Lunn W12, Julie Emmerson W20, Kirsten Strain W21 Lesley Ross W50 and Hilary Simpson W75.
