The Dales Weekend, near Malham Tarn, in Yorkshire, was organised by AIRE orienteering club and included the Senior Home Internationals, Northern Championships and UK Orienteering League events.

Representing England were club members Julie Emmerson, Matthew Elkington and William Gardner, Kirsten Strain was running for Scotland and Toni O’Donovan

for Ireland. Scotland won the individual and relays with England in 2nd place.

On Day 1 Harrison McCartney was 4th in 79.16mins in the M18 Elite class on the 10.75km course with 360metres of climb and Anne Straube was also 4th on the W40L course of 6.17km taking 64.44mins, only 1 minute behind the winner. On the short courses Bruce Bryant was 2nd on the M55 course of 4.9km taking 43.33mins and Daniel Roth 2nd on the M40.

On Day 2 Anne Straube was 1st W40 on the Blue 6.5km course with 260 metres of climb taking 64.10mins, Harrison McCartney was 2nd M18 on the Short Brown 8.5km course in 51.35mins only 14 seconds behind the winner. Sheila Carey was 2nd W65 on the Short Green 3.77km course in 44.23mins.

The Tony Haw Memorial Cup on Sunday at Sutton Park handicap trophy was won by Liz Phillips W50 who found 230 controls within the 60 minute time limit. The score event attracted several new orienteers particularly from schools around the midlands practising for the British School Championships including Bablake in Coventry and Loughborough High School. Top junior was Alfie Bullus M16 who found all 26 controls in 58.52mins earning him a total of 260 points.
