SCOTTISH 6 DAYS AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

 

Nearly 60 Octavian Droobers Club members went to the Scottish 6 Days event staged in forests and towns around Inverness. Considering the complexity of the varied forest terrain and the number of contestants, nearly 6000 from around the world, club members are to be congratulated on their successes in achieving top ten positions overall and in several of the individual days.

 

On the long courses Harrison McCartney’s performance earned him a brilliant overall 2nd place in the M18 category after completing the 6 days. He came 1st on two days and 2nd on another. Amy Sarkies W35 came 4th overall in her age class winning Day 6 and being placed 2nd on Day 4. An overall 6th place was claimed by Hilary Simpson on the W75 Long course which included a 1st place on Day 4. Also on the Long M20 course Matthew Elkington came in 8th overall and Andy Simpson was 9th overall in the long M40 class.

 

Overall positions on the short courses were: Heather Rogers 4th in the W18 age category, which included a 1st on Day 4, Alexandrs Ivanovs 7th in the M35 class and Liz Cross was 8th in the W45 class. Sue Bicknell was 3rd on Day 4 in the W70 Long class.

 

Will Gardner M21 won the Forres town sprint Mens Open taking 16.38mins on the 2.8km dash through the streets and also came 3rd in the Nairn Sprint taking 15.41mins on the 3.5km course. Bruce Bryant M55 was 10th in the Super Vet class at Forres in 19.41mins on the 2.5km course.

 

Honorary Droober Graham Gristwood came in 2nd place on his second leg of the World Orienteering Relay Championships resulting in a podium 4th place for Great Britain. Ex Droober Jess Tullie and her team mates finished in 9th place also in the relays staged at the beautiful Darnaway Estate in Moray, she also came 17th in the middle distance race.
