FINESHADE AND ROWNEY WARREN

Fine weather at Fineshade and Rowney Warren venues in the midlands attracted Octavian Droober members and top ten placings were earned by several.

At Fineshade, near Kettering, the courses were made more challenging as orienteers had to negotiate brashings and brambles throughout the forest leading to longer times. Top runner was Nathan Lawson M18 on the long Brown 9.5k course and who finished in 2nd place taking 1.19.10mins ahead of 4th placed father David Lawson M50 1.28.41mins.  Daniel Kotecky M20 was 6th on the Blue 6.4k course in 1.14.28mins and Gerry Spalton M65 was 10th in 1.17.35mins. Peter Carey M70 was 7th on the Green 4.2k course taking 54.43mins. On the Short Green 3.5k course Roger Hailey M70 was 2nd in 49mins and Thelma Spalton W65 was 8th 1.14.19mins.

At Rowney Warren, near Bedford, the woods were clear but steeper and top runner was Bruce Bryant M55 who won the Green 4.9k course with 170 metres of climb in 38.12mins just ahead of second placed Anne Straube W35 38.58mins. Lesley Ross W45 was 10th in 52.12mins on the Blue 6.8k course with 230 metres of climb. On the Short Green 3.5k course Karin Kirk W65 was 6th in 47.58 and Hilary Simpson W70 8th in 49.57mins.
