CHAMPIONS

On a very wet weekend club members travelled to many locations around the country competing on some highly technical and difficult terrain at various championships.

At the West Midlands Championships in Bucknell Woods, Shropshire there was four first places:  Daniel Kotecky M18, Sheila Carey W65 Kjetil Sekse M21 and Lesley Ross W21. Pippa Smart W10 came 2nd as did Ondrej Bajgar M21 and John Middler M60.

The British Schools Score Championships were held on Saturday at Druridge Bay Country Park, Northumberland, and great results were achieved by club members: Hamish Rogers won the Year 12/13 class and sister Heather Rogers came third in Year 10/11, both representing Kenilworth School and Sports College.

On Day 1 of the October Odyssey, also held at Druridge Bay, Mike Hampton came 2nd in the Ultra Vets event scoring 400 points in the score event and Thelma Spalton was 2nd woman. Day 2’s classic race at Chibburn and Hadston Links, Northumberland, Nathan Lawson M16 won the Short Brown 7.2k course in 51.03mins and Hamish Rogers M18 came 3rd in 54.01mins. This was a good result for our juniors as it was an England selection race.

The Welsh championships took place at Newborough on the Isle of Anglesey, Julie Emmerson was 3rd on the 5.2k W18 course taking 52.02mins and Anne Straube W35 2nd on the Green 3.8k course in 44.20mins.

Harriet Lawson W18 was top girl on the 6.7k Blue course at Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire and Sophie Kirk W21 top woman on the Brown 8.1k course at Penn Wood, Buckinghamshire in 1.19.20mins.
