HAYWOOD WARREN, WEST MIDLANDS LEAGUE RESULTS

The OD orienteering team travelled to the second West Midland League event this year at Haywood Warren, near Stafford, organised by Walton Chasers.

On the long Brown 9.47 course with 320 metres of climb Chris McCartney M40 came 3rd in 1.11.25mins and David Lawson M50 4th in 1.19.53mins. OD club members took the first 3 places on the Blue 6.24k course with 200 metres of climb: 1st Harrison McCartney M16 44.18mins, 2nd Hamish Rogers M18 45.53mins and 3rd Riina Kuuselo W35 47.21mins, Julie Emmerson was 5th in 49.54mins. Ella-Rose McCartney W14 was 4th on the Light Green Course 3.27k course taking 54.56mins and Barbara Morse W60 also 4th on the Yellow course. Scoring 100 points in the league for the club were Harrison, Riina, Chris, Julie, Ondrej Bagjar M21, Frank Smith M80 and Sheila Carey W65. This puts the club in 4th place on 1987 points behind Wrekin 1st with 2257, Walton Chasers 2190 and Harlequins with 2156 points.

At the South Midlands event in Bucknell and Hazelborough Woods Alfie Bullus M14 won the Light Green 3.6k course in 49.03mins, on the long Brown 9.3k course Andy Simpson M40 came first in 1.02.24mins and Toni O’Donovan W35 came second in 1.32.05mins.

Running through the beautiful grounds of Harlaxton College at the middle distance event near Grantham, Lincs, Liz Phillips W45 won the Short Green 2.8k course in 35.09mins, Bruce Bryant won the Green 3.1k course in 30.37mins and Mike Hampton M65 came 2nd on the Blue 4.2k course in 40.29mins.

The club wishes senior members: Lesley Ross, Sheila Carey, Riina Kuuselo, and juniors: Harriet Lawson, Matt Elkington, Nathan Lawson, Harrison McCartney and reserve Aimee Morse all the best representing England in Breda, Netherlands, in the six European nations Interland championships this weekend.

The four day Jan Kjellstrom International Festival of Orienteering, held over the Easter weekend, around the southern part of the Chiltern Hills has attracted a large entry of 84 club members. The Day 1 Sprint and Day 3 long distance events have been awarded world ranking event status. The event is now full with 2892 participants from around the world and there is now a waiting list.
