JUNIORS RECEIVE SPORTS BURSARIES

Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sport (CSW Sport), co-ordinators of the CAP bursary, awarded financial support to three junior club members: Hamish Rogers, Matthew Elkington and Julie Emmerson. The bursary, now in its 5th year, is awarded to talented juniors to help them develop their sporting potential. The awards totalling over £12,500 were funded by Warwickshire County Council and Coventry City Council and presented to 30 young sports people at University of Warwick’s Cryfield Pavilion.

Taking part in Jubilee events around the country Harrison McCartney won the Junior Men’s sprint event at the University of Surrey in 37.18mins, Stephen Elkington came 3rd in 40.08mins. Julie Emmerson came 3rd in the Junior Women’s event in 34.10mins and Aimee Morse came 5th in 38.04mins. Also at the University of Surrey Matthew Elkington came 4th in the Men’s Open event in 38.13mins and Lesley Ross 4th in the Women’s Veteran in 36.45mins.

At the Oldhouse Warren, Crawley Jubilee long distance event Harrison McCartney M14 again came first on the Blue 6.6k course with 185m of climb in 47.22mins. Roger Hailey M70 also came first on the Short Green 3.4k course in 46.06mins and Aimee Morse W16 came 4th on the 4.6k Green course in 42.21mins. The 3rd day of the Jubilee weekend middle distance event at Leith Hill, saw Julie Emmerson W16 coming first on the Green 3k course in 30.57mins, 3mins ahead of nearest rival, and Harrison came 2nd on the Blue 4k course in 34.15mins. On the 4th day Pete Carey M65 came 3rd clocking up 100 points in the Balcombe Waterside Mass Score 40 minute event. Bruce Bryant M55 came 2nd on the Green 4.5k course at Cooksworthy, Devon, in 47.07mins at the Tamar Triple Day Jubilee event.

Mike Hampton M65 earned another urban race first place at Shrewsbury Town winning in 32.58mins on the 3.8k course, 10 minutes ahead of nearest competitor. Liz Phillips W45 came 3rd on the W40 class course in 55.50mins.
