LAGGANLIA TRAINING CAMP

Congratulations to club juniors Aimee Morse W14 and Stephen Elkington M14 who will attend the Lagganlia training camp in Scotland in July. They were nominated to attend the camp by achieving championship standards at major events and will join 22 other juniors from the 14 regions in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

After three events Octavian Droobers are leading the West Midlands league scoring 3486 points ahead of nearest rivals Harlequins with 3078. The club are looking forward to competing at the 4th league event at Breakneck Bank, Wyre Forest, on Sunday 19th June. The courses are on typical forest terrain and only the longest courses will have to confront the ‘Bank’.

A perfect summer evening event was held at a delightful location Itchington Holt, Harbury and the club welcomed several new orienteers who appreciated the beautiful woods and orchid strewn meadows to compete in this private woodland. On the Yellow 1.9k course Josh Hill was 1st in 19.52mins, Joel Taylor M6 was 2nd in 30.36min and Alexander Hague M10 3rd in 39.35mins. Karin Kirk W60 was 1st on the Orange 2.9k course in 32.47 ahead of Liz Phillips W45 33.39mins and Mary Southgate W21 3rd in 43.46mins.

On the longer Green 4.7k course Tony Feltblower M55 won in 42.02mins, Paul Taylor M35 2nd 42.09mins and Michael Hanson-Morris M18 3rd in 45.05mins. Organiser Suzanne Humphries set a challenging Blue map memory 4.4k course which was very popular and Iain Embrey M21 won in 32.20mins with father John Embrey M50 2nd in 36.54mins and club captain Andy Emmerson M50 3rd in 37.08mins.
