Organiser's Comments

Thank you to everyone who turned out to get their exercise on one of the hottest days of the year – it was lovely to see so many people sitting around, enjoying picnics and ice creams after their runs. Thanks also to the cafe staff, who ensured that it stayed open late specially for us.

It was the first time we had used Ryton for a number of years – unfortunately at the moment we are not allowed to go into the woods but I still felt that an event could be successfully held there. On visiting the area I saw how high the grass was in the fields within the park – I decided not to use them at all as controls on the manholes would have been impossible for the early starters to find, and then after a short time there would be a “motorway” elephant track between controls. So I decided that I needed to come up with something unusual so that long course runners did not just have very similar loops more than once. Hence the different format score event. I hope that you all enjoyed it. Adding the penalties on actually made very little difference to the overall results – if anyone is desperate to know what their mistakes were, email me! I have some first part maps that were dropped at the map exchange, if anyone wants them. Thanks to Karin Kirk for doing het “meet and greet”, and also to Bruce Bryant, Alistair Powell and John Middler for help with the event and collecting in controls.
