WEEKEND RESULTS ROUND UP

 

November Classic Weekend

The two day event in Hampshire included an urban event around Hatch Warren, near Basingstoke and a classic race through woods and open moorland at Burley in the New Forest. This popular weekend attracted over 800 competitors, who enjoyed the sunshine, various sightings of roaming animals, deer, cows, ponies and donkeys, including a group of curious pigs in the event arena.

At the Urban event Sheila Carey W65 came 3rd in her class in 34.26mins on the 3.3km course. There were four 6th places: Alfie Bullus M16 6th in his class in 23.05mins on the 3.1km course, Chris McCartney M45 in the M40 class on the 6.5km course taking 46.36mins, Liz Phillips W50 48.54mins in the W40 class on the 5.4km course and Peter Carey M70 in the M65 class taking 45.15mins on the 4.8km course.

In the New Forest Andrew Simpson M50, visiting from Australia, came 5th in 54.50mins in his age class on the Long Blue 8.3km course. Lesley Ross W45 was 1st in her age class on the Short Blue 6.1km course in 48.53mins, Bruce Bryant was 1st M55 in 49.03mins, Bob Brandon 4th M65 in 53.24mins, Liz Phillips 3rd W50 in 54.57mins, all on the same course. Hilary Simpson W75 was 1st in her age class on the Very Short Green 3.7km course taking 57.45mins. Oliver Lunn M14 was 3rd on the Light Green 4km course taking 29.15mins just ahead of brother Felix Lunn M14 29.43mins. Florence Lunn was 3rd W12 in 46.01mins and Tabitha Lunn 4th W12 in 46.25mins on the Orange 3.5km course.

 

West Midlands League event at High Vinnals

Octavian Droobers members competed, and earned valuable points, in the High Vinnals league event organised by Wrekin Orienteers. The club are currently top of the league and there were several fast runs: Oliver Flippance M14 1st in 45.17mins on the Light Green 3.7km course, Peter Carey M70 1st in 57.02mins on the Short Green 3.7km course, Mateusz Podsiadly M21 2nd in 54.40mins on the Blue 6km course, Sam Leadley M16 2nd in 58.16mins and Stephen Bates M60 3rd in 1.02.14mins on the Green 4.5km course,   Finlay Flippance M10 2nd on the Yellow 2.5km course in 28.05mins and Tilly Flippance W10 2nd on the White 1.9km course in 34.03mins

Burbage Common Leicestershire Results

Second places were gained by four OD’s at the event organised by Leicestershire Orienteering Club: David Lawson M50 on the Brown 8.5km course taking 70.23mins,  Chris McCartney M45 on the Blue 7.1km course in 51.58mins, Joel Taylor M10 in 20.14mins on the Yellow 2.2km course and Rachel Alexander W55 65.55mins on the 3.1km Orange course.

 

Brueton Park, Solihull, Halloween Special

About 70 competitors, with many families, some dressed in Halloween costumes enjoyed the three courses planned by organiser Steph Howarth. Sophie Oliver W16 won the Yucky Yellow 2.6km course in 22.09mins, Felix Lunn M14 won the Orrible Orange 3.5km course in 19.49mins, and Anne Straube W40 the 5.1km Gruesome Green course in 34.09mins.
