ENGLAND SELECTIONS

Congratulations to club juniors who have been selected to run for England in the upcoming Home Internationals. Nathan Lawson M18, Harrison McCartney M16 and Julie Emmerson W18 will be competing against Scotland, Wales and Ireland in the individual and relay races at the event in Oban, Scotland on 30 and 31 August. 

The annual White Rose Weekend of Orienteering always attracts a good number of Octavian Droobers and this year was no exception. The event this year was held around Scarborough, Yorkshire. Sheila Carey W65 came 3rd in the Sprint for Senior Veteran Women taking 19.24mins on the 1.6k course around the campus of Hull University at Scarborough. Sheila also won the night score event, Super Vets Women’s class, finding 14 controls in 30mins using a head torch at Raincliffe Woods.

In the age classes Mike Hampton M65 was placed overall 1st having won the Classic distance race and coming 5th in the Middle Distance event with a total time of 76.21mins. David Lawson M50 was placed overall 3rd after completing the Classic and Middle distance races with a combined time of 102.32mins. Bruce Bryant M55 was 2nd overall with two 3rd places taking 86.01mins. Dave Marr M60 came 3rd in the Middle distance event giving him and overall place of 6th.  Peter Carey M70 won the Classic distance race and overall 6th. Trevor Simpson M75 was  3rd overall with 5th and 4th places respectively.

Sue Bicknell W70 was 1st overall and was placed 1st in both races with a total of 87.48mins 10 minutes ahead of her nearest competitor.  Hilary Simpson W75 also achieved the double and came 1st overall. Harriet Lawson was 1st overall in the W20 class with a total of 75.12mins. Carolyn Marr W65 was placed 2nd overall having come 3rd and 2nd in the two events. Liz Phillips W50 came 3rd in the classic distance and 4th overall taking 89.48mins.

At the Didcot Urban race on Bank Holiday Monday both Mike Hampton M65 and Alfie Bullus M14 were placed 4th in their respective classes.
