Chair’s Chat                                                        September 2009

 Sadly this is my last Chair’s Chat as I have now completed my 3 years. Doesn’t time fly! I have enjoyedmy time as chairand would like to thank all those people who have helped both me and the club during this time. No doubt you will treat the new chair equally as well!

During these years the club has been very successful due to a lot of work from committee members ,organisers, planners and controllers of events and those who work with our junior club members.

It never ceases to amaze me how much work some of our club members are willing to put in for the good of the club and the love of orienteering but we always need more, so, those who are new to the club we need your help! As you will come to realise it’s the kind of sport which survives on the basis that if you take from it you need to give back to it. All too often we find the same group of people giving huge amounts of time to keep the club going and put on events. We certainly need more help!

The Octavian Droobers has always been known as a friendly,family orientated club and certainly my family has been fortunate to be involved all our childrens lives with the club. As we become more successful and get our trophies and our accolades as a ‘good’ club, lets not forget the ordinary members , both junior and adult who orienteer for pleasure and will never win trophies, like myself! Its not all about winning.!
